BURRUS ESSAY  - Forgery

An Essay of the Babyhead issue is known from the Soler y Llach auctions in Spain (6-8 November 1990). It was prepared in 1889 and was printed in black and brown. There is a signed note by Burrus at the top of the essay. The essay is also signed by the designer Eugenio Julia Jover of Madrid. It differs significantly from the actual issue and was never issued.

This “Burrus Essay” is now considered to be bogus. A similar forgery exsits for Cuba, except with "ISLA DE CUBA" at the top.

PENCIL ESSAY

An Essay was included in the HR Harmer 2017 auction of the Richard Miggins Collection comprising a detailed drawing in pencil on a thick paper and similar to the final approved design, without denomination and inscribed "Madrid 89" at bottom.

It is difficult to attribute provenance to this essay. The "Madrid 89" appears to be similar to the inscription on the Burrus Essay Frogery.
