ALFONSO XIII - BABY HEAD stamps of the PHILIPPINES

Type B1

Genuine Handstamp Type B1

The Type B1 handstamp has not been previously described although it has similar characteristics to the 5c and 20c surcharges noted by Bartels et al (1904) as a rather crude counterfeit made in the Philippines.

Characteristics:

The “15” appears squat and too broad.

Letters and date appear too large.

An underline is used rather than a dot below “S” in “CENTs”.

The “S” in “CORREOS” is in line with the vertical frame line but should not be confused with B10 which has a similar characteristic.
