Genuine Handstamp | Type B2 |
The forged handstamp was described by Bartels et al (1904) as Illustrations C46 and C55. (a 1903 counterfeit surcharge coming from Europe).
Characteristics: The vertical down stroke of the “5” is too long and the serif of the “5” is a semicircle. The “C” in “CORREOS” is narrow. There is commonly a line break in the bottom external frame towards the left corner. The lettering of “HABILITADO” generally appears fine. The “R” of “PARA” is too broad. As noted by Bartels et al the lettering in CORREOS a trifle too large and the first R of CORREOS has a flat top, while the second R slopes almost from the beginning (although this is not always clear). |
