Genuine Handstamp | Type C18 |
A difficult handstamp to identify (need more examples to gain confidence in confirming). Characteristics: The “C” of “CORREOS” appears to be positioned low and the two R”s positioned high and shorter in height (2nd “O” is round – perhaps). The “9” in the date is leaning to the right, the period after the date is positioned slightly to the right of the vertical frame line. (The lower circle of 8 looks too small). The letters of “PARA” appear too narrow. |

#F-174B C18 blue (gum type B) Interestingly, Bartels et al (1904) indicated that the genuine issue comprises a blue surcharge on the ‘grey brown’ shade of the 20c stamp and gum type B, as opposed to the ‘pale sepia’ shade and gum type A. However, the known examples of the genuine issue exist on the 1892 20c issue |
