Single Die Proofs are proofs that have been made, probably of the master die (or possibly of one of the first cliches generated from the master die). They would have been used to check and confirm that the die was acceptable before continuing with the plate production process.
These single die proofs are rare and only one example of each is known. They are imperforate and on card and in colours that do not usually correspond with the first issues of the denomination. Most of the known examples are of Die Type I. However, the 1c single die proof is of Die Type II as is the 3c single die proof. Both of these were for new values issued in 1892. The 3c value was used for postal cards.
It might be expected that examples of other issues and later dies were produced but examples of these are not known to exist.
